Why is Spectrum switching to routers with limited configurations?

Eventually, all new customers with Spectrum will be getting a router, model SAC2V2S, that only allows you to configure the WiFi name and password, and configure port forwarding, that is it. You can’t change the LAN address, or DHCP setting, or anything else you would find in another router. Currently Spectrum is giving the modem to new customers in certain locations, but they plan on making this their main router.

To make it even more annoying, you can only configure it using a phone app. You can not access the configuration using a web browser.

I was told that this was done because most people are not tech savvy.

Are they so dumb that they couldn’t think of a way of configuring the interface to only show the basic setting for the non-tech savvy customers and to click on a link to access more advanced settings?

Don’t get the SAC2V2S model router from spectrum.
